The Speakeasy Club at Chicks Hotel Presents …

Rikki Lind’s Speakeasy Club is a great way of bringing together some of Dunedin’s folk and country legends as well as rising stars of that genre: Rikki Lind, Dan Madill, Humboldt County and Seahorse. Last night at Chicks, the music encapsulated a strong sense of local pride with anecdotal lyrics and references to familiar places. Lind dedicated a song to Port Chalmers and Scott Klenner of Humboldt County humorously sang about the day his trailer got tagged in Port. Dan Madill’s poetic classics “Bee Moon”, “Porch Song” and “Doctor of the Sea” were highlights of the evening. The versatile band Seahorse entertained us by frequently swapping instruments. The mixture of comical lyrics, nostalgic reminiscences and accomplished musicality had the audience clapping, stomping and Lindy Hopping into the early hours! All in all, the night was a resounding success.
