Fabulous Finds 8

The last few weeks have been surreal and exciting. Now it’s back down to earth with some bargains!

As usual, Two Squirrels Vintage in Milton has come up trumps with another lovely vintage dress, this time from the early 1940s. Closer to home, Maher shoes (in Wall Street Mall) really impresses with their unique and affordable footwear. New Zealander Glen Maher owns the company and designs all the shoes which includes the best men’s shoes around. The re-vamped and re-opened Dunedin Paper Bag Princess store is now run by a local and it shows! There’s some great bargains to be found for both vintage and designer lovers.

Royals, Religion and Rippa Rugby

You did it Dunedin! Hardly a drop of rain fell (unlike some other NZ cities on the royal tour) as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived for their short visit to our stunning city. We managed to capture them on camera in the Octagon where they attended a service at St Paul’s Cathedral. All eyes were on Catherine who looked beautiful in an aquamarine dress by NZ-born designer Emilia Wickstead. We then raced to the Forsyth Barr Stadium for the ‘Regal Rugby Fun Day’. Thanks so much William and Kate for coming!

iD Dunedin Fashion Show, Friday 4 April

On a beautifully warm Friday evening, we headed with great anticipation to the Dunedin Railway Station for the 15th anniversary of the iD Dunedin Fashion Show. All three of us were able to attend the pre-function, held in the Art Station, as guests of the lovely Tania from Configure Gym. The gathering was a who’s who of NZ fashion’s most influential people including Denise L’Estrange-Corbet (WORLD), Charlotte Smith (curator of the Darnell Collection) and bloggers Foureyes – we looked on in awe. The show was one of the best we have ever seen – so many pieces on our wishlists!

iD Emerging Designer Awards, Dunedin Town Hall, 3 April

What an exciting evening – our first time at this event and our first time as members of iD media! The newly revamped Dunedin Town Hall was packed with fashionistas, models, designers and their enthusiastic supporters which added to the atmosphere. It was great to meet and talk with other media (including a lovely journalist from Singapore – sorry I didn’t catch your name). Francis Hooper of World, one of the judging panel, in his praise of the designers said that the “collections have shone”.
