Dunedin’s Athenaeum Hosts The Winter Vintage Roundup

Who would have believed there was such a hidden architectural gem so close to the Octagon? Dunedin’s Athenaeum complex was built in 1861. It was named after Ancient Greece’s ‘Athenaion’, a venue used for poetry readings. More than 150 years later, the complex is being developed as a much-needed venue for the arts thanks to Lawrie Forbes, a developer of heritage buildings. What a fitting venue for yesterday’s well-attended Vintage Roundup. Thanks to Tannia Lee (organiser), all the stall holders and vintage shoppers for making it a splendid event!

Hooray! Dunedin’s Vintage Roundup Comes Round Again

Once again organised by fabulous fashion stylist Tannia Lee, July’s Vintage Roundup is being held in the Athenaeum building this Saturday, starting at 10am. It promises to be another great opportunity for vintage lovers to pick up gorgeous things from Otago’s finest vintage clothing specialists. It was so much fun last time that we couldn’t resist having our own stall again. We’re also very excited that ‘Two Squirrels Vintage’ will be there too.

Here’s a few of the goodies we’ll have on offer. Hope to see you there!

Lyttelton Still Has The Wunder Factor

Lyttelton was hit hard by the 2011 earthquakes with severe damage to the Timeball station. But, you can’t keep a good town down! There’s still plenty to charm the visitor including the dazzling Wunderbar with its rustic glamour and quirkiness. Last Saturday, this fabulous bar hosted a Blues Revival Dance Night, with Stomping Nick and Blues Professor Duo of Ari Freeman and Oscar Green. Ari is also locally known as the Wizard of Papanui. Rockabilly was the dress code of the evening – perfect for letting loose on the dance floor!

Street Art Dunedin-Style 2

Last June, we paid tribute to the art of John Noakes who pioneered the painting of Dunedin’s bus shelters. Since then, some fabulous street art has popped up around the city, including the Art Tardis project. It’s great to see that John’s legacy continues!
