At the iD Dunedin Fashion Show, Friday 24 April, Dunedin Railway Station

The Octagon was buzzing, Di Lusso was packed out with showgoers trying the Designer Cocktail Series and the evening was beautiful. Some of our show highlights: poppy images cascading down the facade of the Railway Station; the refreshing enthusiasm of Doris Raymond as she took to the catwalk with her model; Daniel Kwok’s East-meets-West red showstopper; watching Foureyes in action just in front of us; and seeing so many great Dunedin labels rocking it to retro music.

iD Dunedin Fashion Week Official Opening, Golden Centre Mall

Last night, the Golden Centre was buzzing with excitement as designers, fashionistas, supporters and beautiful models gathered to celebrate the opening of iD Dunedin Fashion Week 2015. The highlight of our evening was chatting to the fabulous Doris Raymond, owner of Los Angeles’ vintage store, ‘The Way We Wore’, and star of Smithsonian Channel’s ‘L.A. Frock Stars’. What an approachable, enthusiastic, friendly and down-to-earth lady!

An amazing time was had by all, and the Quartz Reef flowed!

Dunedin’s Bloomin’ Lovely

Something romantic happens when flowers and vintage come together – whether it’s old Hollywood glamour or rock festival hippy chic. Spring has hardly sprung yet the city is vibrant with a kaleidoscope of floral colour. Here, we’ve done some colour matching around town. Everything featured is from a local vintage or op shop.

Since it’s 2014, these poppies remind us of all the young men who lost their lives for the cause of freedom between 1914 and 1918. We would like to mention two in particular. Firstly, our second cousin Albert Alfred Sammons who was killed in action on 25 April 1915 while serving with the Royal Fusiliers. Also, Morgan Morris (our great grandfather’s brother) of the 9th Battalion Welsh Regiment. He was 27 years old when he died on 1st February 1917 following an enemy gas attack.

Grace About Town: August

It’s great to see how well New Zealand’s doing in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – currently in sixth position with 14 gold medals (what an exciting netball match between NZ and England!). So, we thought we should celebrate Dunedin’s Scottish heritage with a fresh take on tartan.

Dunners has many Edinburgh connections. But, one of our most stunning gothic buildings, the University of Otago clocktower complex, bears a strong resemblance to the University of Glasgow. Our obliging model, Grace Coddington (supermodel and creative director of American Vogue), posed on campus wearing as many Scottish-inspired pieces as we could find.

Dunedin’s Athenaeum Hosts The Winter Vintage Roundup

Who would have believed there was such a hidden architectural gem so close to the Octagon? Dunedin’s Athenaeum complex was built in 1861. It was named after Ancient Greece’s ‘Athenaion’, a venue used for poetry readings. More than 150 years later, the complex is being developed as a much-needed venue for the arts thanks to Lawrie Forbes, a developer of heritage buildings. What a fitting venue for yesterday’s well-attended Vintage Roundup. Thanks to Tannia Lee (organiser), all the stall holders and vintage shoppers for making it a splendid event!

Hooray! Dunedin’s Vintage Roundup Comes Round Again

Once again organised by fabulous fashion stylist Tannia Lee, July’s Vintage Roundup is being held in the Athenaeum building this Saturday, starting at 10am. It promises to be another great opportunity for vintage lovers to pick up gorgeous things from Otago’s finest vintage clothing specialists. It was so much fun last time that we couldn’t resist having our own stall again. We’re also very excited that ‘Two Squirrels Vintage’ will be there too.

Here’s a few of the goodies we’ll have on offer. Hope to see you there!
