At the iD Dunedin Fashion Show, Friday 24 April, Dunedin Railway Station

The Octagon was buzzing, Di Lusso was packed out with showgoers trying the Designer Cocktail Series and the evening was beautiful. Some of our show highlights: poppy images cascading down the facade of the Railway Station; the refreshing enthusiasm of Doris Raymond as she took to the catwalk with her model; Daniel Kwok’s East-meets-West red showstopper; watching Foureyes in action just in front of us; and seeing so many great Dunedin labels rocking it to retro music.

iD Dunedin Fashion Week Official Opening, Golden Centre Mall

Last night, the Golden Centre was buzzing with excitement as designers, fashionistas, supporters and beautiful models gathered to celebrate the opening of iD Dunedin Fashion Week 2015. The highlight of our evening was chatting to the fabulous Doris Raymond, owner of Los Angeles’ vintage store, ‘The Way We Wore’, and star of Smithsonian Channel’s ‘L.A. Frock Stars’. What an approachable, enthusiastic, friendly and down-to-earth lady!

An amazing time was had by all, and the Quartz Reef flowed!

Say Cricket With Flowers

Cricket World Cup fever is here! As Dunedin hosted international teams at the University Oval, floral flags of the participating countries sprang up outside the Dunedin Railway Station – how ingenious! Cricket-inspired fashion is a perennial favourite, with recent collections by overseas designers such as Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Tommy Hilfiger. NZ designers Kate Sylvester and Karen Walker have also joined the trend. Anyone for cricket?

It’s So Green!

How lucky are we to be living in a city where the urban landscape is so green. From Dunedin’s town belt to the native bush of Ross Creek to the distant hills of the peninsula, there’s an abundance of lush vegetation. It’s good to be green with fashion too and we’re not spoilt for choice – second-hand, vintage, recycled, upcycled and eco-friendly.

Why we love …

NOM*d – for their upcycling of vintage into new

Kowtow – for their use of only fair trade organic cotton

Melanie Child – for her entirely upcycled and innovative collections

Grace About Town: August

It’s great to see how well New Zealand’s doing in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – currently in sixth position with 14 gold medals (what an exciting netball match between NZ and England!). So, we thought we should celebrate Dunedin’s Scottish heritage with a fresh take on tartan.

Dunners has many Edinburgh connections. But, one of our most stunning gothic buildings, the University of Otago clocktower complex, bears a strong resemblance to the University of Glasgow. Our obliging model, Grace Coddington (supermodel and creative director of American Vogue), posed on campus wearing as many Scottish-inspired pieces as we could find.

Winter Warmers

A wintery blast is a good excuse for bringing out your cosy coats and knitwear which Dunedin designers are so good at producing. Here’s a mix of some of our favourites, with a dose of vintage thrown in.

iD Dunedin Fashion Show, Friday 4 April

On a beautifully warm Friday evening, we headed with great anticipation to the Dunedin Railway Station for the 15th anniversary of the iD Dunedin Fashion Show. All three of us were able to attend the pre-function, held in the Art Station, as guests of the lovely Tania from Configure Gym. The gathering was a who’s who of NZ fashion’s most influential people including Denise L’Estrange-Corbet (WORLD), Charlotte Smith (curator of the Darnell Collection) and bloggers Foureyes – we looked on in awe. The show was one of the best we have ever seen – so many pieces on our wishlists!
