Jewellery designer, Rebecca Scarlett Shearer is another great example of Dunedin talent. It was a pleasure to meet her at the Company of Strangers shop launch. Her 2013 jewellery collection, ‘Darkest Day’, is quite a contrast to her bubbly personality and her label name, Scarlett. Her gothic-inspired pieces take Stone Henge and Queen Mab into the modern age. Each design starts as an original hand-crafted piece from which copies are made using moulds. But Rebecca doesn’t stop there, each piece is carefully reworked until she is happy with the finished result. Everything is made out of sterling silver. Here are some examples of her work. Shame we didn’t find out about this jewellery before Valentine’s day – could have done some serious hinting!
