For those of us who are fed up with overseas record labels/producers dictating what we should listen to in New Zealand, Operation Underground proves to be a great alternative. Masterminded by Artistic Director Michael Morris, a group of indie soloists and duos (many from Dunedin) have united to produce their own CD. This project evolved from Sunday Porch Sessions, in which solo artists were recorded performing their own compositions, literally from their porches! The launch party at Queens helped to raise awareness of this project with Dunedin musicians taking centre stage. Even though the event was free, donations were encouraged to help bring the project to completion. A fantastic evening was had by all.
