Since it’s conception at the 2012 Dunedin Fringe Festival, Piccolo Cor has leapt from strength to strength. Created and directed by sisters Anna and Miriam Noonan, the production cleverly weaves dance, devised theatre and psychodrama to tell true stories of struggles to achieve a sense of community, belonging and self-appreciation. There are very few productions in which the performers truly expose their inner being through body contortions and candid stories, leaving the audience enthralled and emotionally raw. Captivating scenes included actor Lyndon Katene wrestling with inner demons (performed by Patrick Meessmann), and the fragility and grace of Anna Noonan and Beth Lane’s dance solos. It was great to see the strong local support behind this project; we were even treated to free mulled apple juice!
Thanks for a great night team! We look forward to seeing your future projects.
Sister act! Miriam recently completed theatre studies with honours at the University of Otago and Anna gained a bachelor of dance at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. Despite travelling overseas frequently, the girls still appreciate Dunedin’s strong sense of community.
